Analysts predict Jio Bharat 4G feature phone will acquire 100 million users within 3 years

Analysts predict Jio Bharat 4G feature phone to reach 100 million users in 3 years

【Phoneauto News】Indian telecommunications operator Reliance Jio launched several 4G feature phones earlier this month. These phones are based on the “Jio Bharat” platform, which can access 4G networks and support UPI, Jio applications, and more. Through Jio Bharat phones, Reliance aims to enable the existing 250 million feature phone users to access the internet. A research report from BoFa Securities shows that Jio Bharat phones may attract about 100 million users in the next two to three years.

Jio has partnered with other brands to launch 4G feature phones on the Jio Bharat platform. The first brand to join is Karbonn, which means more entry-level Jio Bharat phones can be developed.

“If RIL/Karbonn can expand the production scale of these phones, then we will see the potential of this phone and it may attract approximately 100 million users in the next 2-3 years,” BoFa Securities stated in its research report.

Another analysis suggests that Reliance can gain about 60-65 million users annually through Jio Bharat phones. By March 2026, Jio’s subscriber count will reach approximately 55 million.

The telecom company started testing the first batch of one million Jio Bharat phones on July 7. Pilot testing is being conducted in 6,500 counties in India. These phones are bundled with Jio Bharat plans, starting at 123 rupees (approximately 10 yuan) for 28 days. The plan offers unlimited voice calls and 0.5GB data per day. The annual Jio Bharat plan is priced at 1234 rupees (approximately 107 yuan), including 0.5GB of data per day and unlimited voice calls.

With the Jio Bharat phone, users can make UPI payments through the JioPay application. It also comes with the Jio Cinema app, allowing users to watch movies and TV shows anytime, anywhere. The JioSaavn app provides access to over 80 million songs. It also has other basic features such as an FM radio and flashlight on the Jio Bharat phone.

On July 4th, Reliance Jio launched the Jio Bharat phone priced at 999 rupees (about 88 RMB) in an effort to capture market share in the local rural/poor areas. Although it is just a 4G feature phone, it is the cheapest internet-enabled phone in the world.
