【Phoneauto News】As a luxury flagship sedan, the BMW 7 Series has always had bulletproof versions to choose from, and even in this generation’s pure electric version i7, there is no exception. Recently, BMW has launched a bulletproof version of the BMW i7 electric sedan, which is also BMW’s first bulletproof electric sedan. The new car will officially debut at the Munich International Motor Show in September.

According to the introduction, the bulletproof version of the BMW i7 is equipped with a battery pack with a usable capacity of 101.7 kWh, but this does not hinder the armored protection, as the vehicle has passed the VR9 security level certification of the German VPAM (Ballistic Material and Structure Testing Laboratory Association). This is the highest rating for civilian vehicles, which means that the body and glass of this i7 can withstand shots from military weapons such as M14 and FAL-FN rifles at a distance of 33 feet, as well as at least three bullets from heavy machine guns like the M60 at a similar distance. BMW claims that the vehicle can also withstand drone attacks and grenade attacks.

Bulletproof BMW i7

BMW stated that the ability to achieve such high protection capabilities is closely related to the design known as the “Protection Core”. This is a self-supporting body structure made of armored steel, combined with additional armored plates on the bottom, roof, and doors of the vehicle. The windows are made of tempered glass, the wheels are made of 20-inch lightweight alloy, and they use Michelin PAX run-flat tires, which allow the vehicle to travel at a maximum speed of 50 miles/hour (80 kilometers/hour) even if the tires are punctured.

Despite being equipped with numerous additional protection devices, the interior of the vehicle is still as luxurious as any other 7 series model. However, it also has additional protective configurations inside. This includes an onboard air system to prevent gas or fire smoke attacks. In terms of power, the vehicle adopts the same power system as the i7 M70 xDrive, equipped with a dual-motor four-wheel drive system and a rated peak power of 544 horsepower. BMW states that the vehicle’s zero to one hundred kilometers per hour acceleration time is around 9 seconds, with a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour. However, BMW has not disclosed the vehicle’s range performance, but the increase in weight undoubtedly affects the vehicle’s range.
