The Decline in Lithium Carbonate Prices A General Trend in the China Nonferrous Metal Industry Association

【PhoneAuto News】Recently, PhoneAuto noticed that the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association announced the latest developments in the lithium carbonate market in our country at a press conference in the third quarter. According to Chen Xuesen, party committee member, vice president, and spokesperson of the association, with the release of new upstream raw material production capacity domestically and abroad, and the slowdown in downstream demand growth, the decline in lithium carbonate prices is the trend.

According to Chen Xuesen, in the first three quarters of this year, our country’s lithium salt production reached about 560,000 tons of lithium carbonate equivalent, with a net import of 102,000 tons of lithium carbonate and a net export of 90,000 tons of lithium hydroxide. The domestic apparent demand for lithium carbonate is 582,000 tons. However, despite this, the downward trend in lithium carbonate prices is still obvious.

Chen Xuesen pointed out that for lithium salt production enterprises with their own resources, although the current profits are considerable, compared with the super high prices of last year, the drop in prices has led to a decline in enterprise profits, which is normal. However, for enterprises that purchased resources or acquired resources at high prices last year, some of them may be on the brink of loss.

Lithium carbonate is an inorganic compound that is used as a raw material in ceramics, glass, ferrites, and other materials and components such as silver paste. In addition, it is also used for the treatment of depression in medicine. At the same time, in the current new energy vehicle industry, lithium carbonate is highly valued as an important raw material for manufacturing power batteries. In 2022, the price of lithium carbonate in the market saw a sharp increase, and many executives of automotive companies complained about it. However, now, with the expansion of lithium carbonate production capacity and other factors, its price is significantly lower than in 2022, which is more conducive to the development of the new energy vehicle industry.
