【PhoneAuto News】At the end of last year, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union reached a temporary agreement to comprehensively revise the EU’s battery regulations. Recently, members of the European Parliament passed an agreement reached with the Council of the European Union with 587 votes in favor, 9 against, and 20 abstentions, to comprehensively reform the EU’s regulations on batteries and waste batteries. The new law takes into account the technological development and future challenges of the industry, and will cover the entire battery life cycle from design to disposal.

Among them, there are regulations designed for smartphones. The new law requires portable batteries in household appliances to be easily removable and replaceable by consumers themselves, which means that a large number of household appliances, including smartphones, must adopt a design with replaceable batteries.

Previously, the EU had required major mobile phone manufacturers to use more universal USB-C interfaces for phones sold on the EU market, which directly promoted the standardization of interfaces. However, in recent years, for the sake of being lightweight and portable, devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops on the market have all adopted the design of built-in batteries. It is believed that after the new EU regulations are implemented, manufacturers’ product design ideas will be modified accordingly.
