Xiang Ligang explained that the corner label on the phone displays the communication network. According to general understanding, if there is a 4G signal in a certain area, it should display 4G; if there is a 4G+ signal, it should display 4G+; if there is a 5G signal, it should display 5G. However, Apple phones indeed display the 5G icon even when there is no 5G network.

To further clarify this point, he took the Beijing Subway Line 10 and asked a young man using an iPhone 13 to help. The young man was a China Mobile user, and his phone also displayed 5G. However, there is no 5G signal from China Mobile in Beijing Subway Line 10.

Xiang Ligang also mentioned that a friend sent him the settings of an Apple phone. In the “Voice and Data” section, there are three options: 4G, Enable 5G, and Auto 5G. Under the “Enable 5G” option, the corner label directly changes to 5G, which means it displays 5G even when there is no 5G network. This labeling is different from our general understanding and does not reflect the actual network situation. It is misleading information to consumers when it displays 5G even without a 5G signal.
