Far behind? Mazda plans to sell hybrid cars in China by 2025 at the latest

Mazda Aiming for Progress Targets to Introduce Hybrid Cars in China by 2025

【PhoneAuto News】As an international automobile brand, in order to establish a foothold in the Chinese automobile market, the first priority now is to embrace new energy. However, the actions of some international car companies are still a bit slow. On October 31st, PhoneAuto learned from the media that Mazda plans to start selling hybrid cars in the Chinese market as early as 2025. I have to say, this timeline is a bit late.

Mazda CX-50 lineup

Based on previous reports, 2025 may be related to the product launch rhythm of the Mazda CX-5. In the first half of this year, foreign media reported that the next generation Mazda CX-5 is planned to be launched in 2025, equipped with a hybrid powertrain system.

PhoneAuto has learned that the new Mazda CX-5 is likely to be equipped with a hybrid powertrain system similar to the ones used in Toyota RAV4 or Corolla Cross. Toyota owns 5% of Mazda’s shares and the two companies have collaborated on the development of several models, including the Mazda 3 hybrid model sold exclusively in the Japanese market. In the United States, both the Toyota Corolla Cross and Mazda CX-50 are assembled at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing Plant in Huntsville, Alabama.

Previously, Mazda announced plans to produce three electric vehicles, five plug-in hybrid vehicles, and five conventional hybrid vehicles by 2025. However, it is still unknown which models will be equipped with these powertrain systems. In addition, Mazda has hinted that a rotary engine hybrid version of the CX-30 may be offered in the United States, and their new sports car will also adopt a rotary plug-in hybrid powertrain.
