Is your iPhone 15 running out of battery too quickly? Here are 16 tips to improve battery life for you

Here are 16 tips to improve battery life on your iPhone 15 if it's running out of battery quickly

【phoneauto】Every time Apple releases a new operating system and a new iPhone, there are always complaints about battery life, and this year is no exception.

Battery life issues could be caused by new features introduced by Apple, bugs that need to be fixed, or simply increased usage after the update. Regardless of the reason, here are some suggestions to help you maximize the battery life of your iPhone.

It’s worth mentioning that many of these suggestions require disabling certain features of the iPhone, so you need to weigh the trade-off between battery life and the features you want to use in order to have a better user experience and longer battery life. These tips are not only applicable to the iPhone 15 series or iOS 17; some of them are universal.

Live Widgets allow applications to display real-time activity progress on the lock screen or the Today View, and in iOS 17, Live Widgets are used more frequently than ever before. Combined with the always-on display of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro models, Live Widgets can significantly reduce battery life.

You can disable Live Widgets by following these steps: go to Settings – Face ID & Passcode, enter your lock screen password to proceed, then scroll down and turn off the switch next to “Live Widgets” under the “Allow Access When Locked” section.

In iOS 17, Apple has further improved widgets by introducing interactivity. Now you can directly interact with widgets on the lock screen, allowing you to control smart home products or view reminders without opening the corresponding applications.

If you don’t frequently use a particular widget, it’s best to remove it to save battery life. However, whether using widgets is more power-efficient than opening applications is still worth exploring.

When you have two iPhones running iOS 17 at the same time, or an iPhone running iOS 17 and an Apple Watch running watchOS 10.1, the iPhone will initiate AirDrop or contact transfer protocols based on proximity. If you trigger this function repeatedly, it may drain the battery. Therefore, if you have an iPhone near another iPhone and the AirDrop interface keeps popping up, you can turn it off.

In iOS 17, you can download Apple Maps for offline use. It is very useful when there is no cellular network connection, but it is also suitable for use even with a cellular network connection. If you are traveling in an area with an unstable network connection, downloading the map of that location and then turning off the cellular network will extend battery life without affecting your trip.

Apple has a keyboard option that provides haptic feedback when you tap on the keys on the screen. It vibrates with each key press to provide a more satisfying typing experience, but you may not be aware that it increases power consumption.

In a support document last year, Apple stated that haptic keyboard feedback can affect battery life and is turned off by default. If it is already enabled, you can follow these steps to turn it off: open “Settings,” tap on “Sounds & Haptics,” tap on “Keyboard Feedback,” and turn off “Haptic Feedback.”

Always-on Display is a popular feature. As the name suggests, it allows the iPhone screen to display the time, wallpaper, widgets, and real-time activities even when it is locked. This feature also increases battery consumption, so you can turn it off when you don’t need it.

You can turn off the always-on display by following these steps: Open “Settings”, click on Display & Brightness, click on Always On, and turn off “Always On”.

Some beautiful wallpapers are animated, but dynamic wallpapers consume more battery power than static wallpapers. If you want to optimize your phone’s battery life and don’t care much about animation, you can choose static wallpapers.

Using the built-in focus mode on your phone can reduce the number of notifications you receive throughout the day. The fewer notifications, the less chance there is for apps to wake up the screen and drain the battery.

With the focus mode, you can choose which apps and people can send notifications and when to send them. This way, during work hours, you can ensure that you only receive work-related notifications, while during your personal time, you can limit work notifications. You can also restrict notifications while driving, sleeping, exercising, or any other specific situations.

It is a good idea to categorize all apps that send non-essential notifications as scheduled summaries, so they save the notifications and send them to you once or twice a day.

How to enable it? Open the “Settings” on your phone, click on “Notifications”, and on the Notifications page, toggle on the button on the right side of “Customize Summary”. You can also set the push time and allow apps to establish notifications.

It is always good to check privacy and access settings to ensure that apps and services do not perform actions you do not want them to. Restricting apps that have access to your location and the frequency at which apps access that data can also save battery life.

Open “Settings”, select Privacy and Security, click on Location Services, view the list and edit settings by clicking on the name of each application in the list.

When an application requests Bluetooth access, there will be corresponding notifications. Many applications require Bluetooth access for location tracking, scanning Chromecast devices, or other reasons.

It is necessary to check which applications are using Bluetooth to ensure that no unauthorized applications are secretly connected to the Bluetooth source and consuming battery power.

Using Low Power Mode to maintain battery status is an obvious choice when you don’t need to make many settings. You can open it through the Control Center, the Battery section of the Settings app, or use Siri. Low Power Mode can reduce background activity, turn off the display faster after you stop operating, limit display refresh rate, limit email fetching, reduce visual effects, etc.

You can use shortcuts to set Low Power Mode to automatically turn on when a certain battery percentage is reached. This is a convenient way to automatically enable Low Power Mode when needed.

If possible, it is best to connect to Wi-Fi to maximize battery life, which is one of the battery protection tips provided by Apple. When at home or at work, make sure to connect to Wi-Fi instead of using cellular signal. Nothing consumes more battery than a 5G connection, especially an unstable one.

If there is no Wi-Fi in the area and the network signal is weak, you can turn on airplane mode or disable cellular connection to save battery power as much as possible. Of course, this only works when cellular connection is temporarily not needed.

Your iPhone will tell you which applications consume the most power, so you can make sure that no applications secretly drain your battery without your knowledge. You can check battery usage statistics by opening the “Settings” app and clicking on the “Battery” section.

If there are unnecessary applications that consume too much power, you can delete them. If you really need the application, you can adjust the frequency of use and the permissions it has (such as location access).

For the iPhone 15 series, there is also a new feature that helps maintain battery health by preventing the iPhone from charging beyond 80%. You can disable this feature when you are out for a long time, and keep it enabled when you are at home to have a healthier battery for a longer period of time. You can enable this setting by going to “Settings” > “Battery” > “Battery Health and Charging” > “Optimized Battery Charging” > “80% Limit”.

Almost all applications use background refresh to update content when they are not open, and limiting background activity and background refresh has been the most popular choice for reducing battery usage in the long term.

You can either turn off background app refresh altogether or choose which applications can refresh in the background.

This measure can significantly reduce battery consumption. The darker the screen, the less power is consumed. If you are indoors, you can reduce the brightness to the lowest tolerable level.

There are many ways to extend the battery life of your phone. The key is to find methods that are suitable for you, eliminate unnecessary ones, and make compromises to extend battery life, so you can find a balance between enjoyable phone usage and maximum battery life.

In addition, there has been a lot of discussion about the overheating issue of the iPhone 15 series, especially the iPhone 15 Pro series. Apple released iOS 17.0.3 on October 4th, which is said to fix the error that may cause the operating temperature of the iPhone 15 series to be higher than expected. If you encounter heating and battery life issues, you can go to “Settings” > “General” > “Software Update” to update your phone to iOS 17.0.3.
