MediaTek maintains top smartphone chip market share for 3 years in a row
【Phoneauto News】Recently, market research firm Counterpoint released the global smartphone (application processor) shipment market share for 2022Q1-2023Q2, showing that MediaTek has been the market leader for a whole year. It is reported that MediaTek has been the number one smartphone chip market share holder from 2020Q3 to 2023Q2, continuously for 3 years.
Specifically, due to seasonal factors, Apple’s sales in the second quarter of 2023 have declined. The performance of the Pro series is better.
MediaTek’s shipments in the second quarter of 2023 have slightly increased, due to the decrease in inventory levels and intensified competition in the entry-level 5G smartphone market. The release of new mid-range smartphones has increased the shipments of the Dimensity 6000 and Dimensity 7000 series. The Dimensity 9200 Plus has been added to the high-end segment.

The launch of Samsung’s Flip and Fold series has also promoted this growth. Qualcomm has updated the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 series to regain some market share. However, the growth in the high-end market is still the focus.
Samsung’s shipments have increased in the second quarter of 2023. The launch of the Exynos 1330 and 1380 has boosted sales in the mid-range market.
UNISOC (Spreadtrum) shipments have increased in the second quarter of 2023 after a weak first quarter. It has gained some market share in the $100-150 LTE market. By the second half of 2023, with the popularity of entry-level 5G smartphones in regions such as Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, UNISOC will gain some market share.
