Something new! Emergency SOS feature for iPhone 14 has been launched in these countries

New emergency SOS feature for iPhone 14 now available in certain countries

【PhoneAuto News】Last year, Apple added an emergency SOS feature via satellite when launching the new iPhone 14 series. Since then, Apple has been committed to expanding this feature to other regions. Recently, PhoneAuto learned from foreign media that the emergency SOS feature has been launched in Australia and New Zealand, and is available to Apple iPhone 14 and 14 Pro users running iOS 16.1 or higher.

iPhone 14 series

With the addition of Australia and New Zealand, the Apple satellite feature is now available in 14 countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Australia, and New Zealand.

This feature allows users to send an emergency SOS message to a service center using satellite without any other hardware or additional software when there is no cellular network or Wi-Fi connection. When users use the emergency service, the iPhone will automatically send their location, medical ID (if set), and battery level to professional staff. The main use case is to send one’s location information to professional rescuers when there is no signal and need to seek help. In addition, this feature can also share one’s location with friends and family in the “Find” app.

It is worth noting that this feature is only applicable to open spaces with clear visibility and no obstacles such as trees or buildings. Currently, sending an emergency SOS via satellite is free for 2 years after activating the iPhone 14 or 14 Pro. After 2 years, users need to pay a monthly fee to continue using this feature. However, Apple has not yet revealed how much it will charge for this feature once the free service ends.
