iPhone domestic shipments decline more than expected, Huawei’s return brings structural changes
iPhone's domestic shipments see larger-than-expected decrease, Huawei's comeback triggers structural shifts
【Mobile China News】Recently, renowned analyst Guo Mingji stated that the decline in iPhone shipments in the Chinese market exceeded expectations, indicating a continued decline in shipments in the Chinese market for this product by 2024. This trend is regarded as a reflection of the structural changes that have occurred in the Chinese mobile phone market following Huawei’s return.
Despite the challenges and structural changes in the Chinese smartphone market, Apple’s performance in China remains solid, as can be seen from the recent Singles’ Day event. Moreover, Apple remains optimistic about the Chinese market. In the recent earnings conference call, CEO Tim Cook expressed confidence in Apple’s long-term prospects in the Chinese market. He pointed out that in the past fiscal year, the top four best-selling models in Chinese urban areas were all iPhones, and he has just visited China and interacted with consumers, company employees, and other institutions.
The latest report data shows that in the third quarter of 2023, the shipment volume of the Chinese smartphone market decreased by 5% compared to the same period last year, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-on-year decline. Hindered by factors such as weak consumer demand and uncertain economic prospects, the downward trend in shipment volume has become more apparent. However, the decline rate in the third quarter has stabilized, indicating that the market is bottoming out.
