【Phoneauto News】On July 20th, Phoneauto noticed that market research firm Canalys released the latest data on the Indian smartphone market for the second quarter of 2023. It is reported that the Indian smartphone market is currently performing well, with an overall shipment volume of around 36.1 million units, only a 1% decrease. Canalys stated that this signifies a slight recovery in the Indian smartphone market after experiencing three consecutive quarters of decline.
Turning our attention to various smartphone manufacturers, Samsung has been steadily occupying the top spot in the Indian market for three consecutive quarters since surpassing Xiaomi in the fourth quarter of 2022. In a single quarter, Samsung shipped 6.6 million units, with a market share of 18% and a year-on-year growth rate of -1%. However, Samsung is also facing a challenge from Vivo. Vivo’s shipment volume in the second quarter of India reached 6.4 million units, with a market share of 18% and a year-on-year growth rate of 7%. The gap between Vivo and Samsung is gradually narrowing. Xiaomi is currently the third-largest smartphone brand in India, with a shipment volume of 5.4 million units in a single quarter, a market share of 15%, and a year-on-year growth rate of -22%. In addition, Realme and OPPO, two domestic smartphone brands, had shipment volumes of 4.3 million units and 3.7 million units respectively in a single quarter, with market shares of 12% and 10% respectively, and year-on-year growth rates of -29% and -7% respectively.

Overall, among the top five brands in the Indian smartphone market, four are Chinese brands, with Samsung being the only exception. However, except for Vivo, the year-on-year growth rates of the other four brands are negative. In addition, the year-on-year growth rate of the “Other” Indian manufacturers listed is 44%, with a total shipment volume of 9.7 million units, higher than any single manufacturer.
